The Hudson Valley Community College men's soccer team came up just short in its season opener on Sunday, falling 3–2 to Jefferson Community College at the Outdoor Athletic Complex.
Jefferson built a 2–0 advantage in the first half behind a penalty kick goal from Brodie Finnie in the 22nd minute and a strike from Jonny LaFontaine just before the break.
The Vikings battled back in the second half, cutting the deficit to 2–1 when Xavier Tubon headed home a cross from Camryn Curet in the 78th minute. Jefferson quickly responded with LaFontaine's second goal of the day to restore a two-goal lead, but Hudson Valley answered once more as Curet found the back of the net off a corner from Erik Najtellari in the 84th minute. Despite their late surge, the Vikings could not find the equalizer.
Hudson Valley out-shot Jefferson 15–6 and earned a 5–0 edge in corner kicks, while goalkeeper Juan Rivas recorded five saves in net.
The Vikings return to action on Wednesday, 9/3 at Herkimer, looking to build on their strong second-half performance and secure their first win of the 2025 season.
