The Hudson Valley Community College women's volleyball team continued its dominant season this weekend, sweeping both opponents at the Mountain Valley Conference Tournament to capture the conference title and remain undefeated. The Vikings now stand at 23-0 overall and advance to the Region 3 Tournament Semifinals on Saturday, November 1 at 11 a.m.
The Vikings opened the tournament with a dominant performance, sweeping Mohawk Valley Community College by set scores of 25-5, 25-10, and 25-8.
Hudson Valley hit an impressive .333 as a team, led by Hayden LeFever, who recorded 11 kills and four service aces for a match-high 15.5 points. Gabriella Kholstinin dished out 15 assists and added nine digs, while Jocelyn Caputo and Avery McPherson each contributed seven points. Angelina O'Leary added three kills on a .750 hitting percentage.
The Vikings controlled every aspect of the match, limiting Mohawk Valley to single digits in each set with a strong serving attack that produced 10 aces.
In the championship match, Hudson Valley continued its dominance with another sweep, defeating SUNY Adirondack by set scores of 25-13, 25-11, and 25-16 to clinch the Mountain Valley Conference title.
LeFever once again led the way with 18 points, totaling four kills and an impressive 14 service aces. Lillian Fros and Madison LaCouture each tallied seven kills to spark the Vikings' balanced offense. Kholstinin led the team with 23 assists, and Avery McPherson added five kills and nine digs.
Defensively, the Vikings held Adirondack to a .160 hitting percentage while totaling 46 digs as a team. Their consistent serving pressure and strong net play sealed their second sweep of the day and the conference championship.
With the Mountain Valley Conference title secured, Hudson Valley now turns its attention to the Region 3 Tournament Semifinals on Saturday, November 1 at 11 a.m. at Finger Lakes Community College. The Vikings will look to extend their perfect 23-0 season and continue their pursuit of a regional championship.
