GAME 1: HVCC 3 - NASSAU 0
The Hudson Valley women's volleyball team opened its 2025 campaign with a statement victory, sweeping nationally ranked No. 11 Nassau Community College on the road, 3–0 (25–14, 25–16, 25–15), on Saturday, August 23.
The Vikings came out strong in the first set and never looked back, dictating the pace with aggressive serving and efficient hitting. Freshman outside hitter Jocelyn Caputo powered the attack with a team-high 11 kills, while Avery McPherson and Madison LaCouture added five kills apiece and combined for eight service aces. Setter Gabriella Kholstinin ran the offense smoothly, finishing with 20 assists, and Lillian Fros anchored the defense with nine digs.
As a team, Hudson Valley out-killed Nassau 30–19 and tallied 13 service aces to the Lions' six, controlling every phase of play. The sweep marks one of the program's most notable wins in recent years and provides early momentum against top competition.
GAME 2: HVCC 3 - COMMUNITY COLLEGE OF RHODE ISLAND 0
After their upset over No. 11 Nassau earlier in the day, the Vikings team kept the momentum rolling with a dominant 3–0 win over Community College of Rhode Island. The Vikings controlled the match from start to finish, taking the sets 25–17, 25–8, and 25–13.
Freshman Madison LaCouture paced the offense with 7 kills and 2 aces, while Avery McPherson and Lillian Fros each added 8 points apiece through a combination of kills, aces, and blocks. Emily Coffey provided steady defense with 5 digs and chipped in 2 service aces, helping the Vikings maintain rhythm throughout the match.
Hudson Valley finished the day 2–0 without dropping a set, combining aggressive serving with steady defense and balanced scoring across the lineup. The opening-day performance not only featured a statement upset over a nationally ranked opponent but also highlighted the team's depth and early-season cohesion. The Vikings continue their season on August 30th as they head to Dutchess for a multi-team tournament.
