The Hudson Valley Community College softball program has earned the No. 1 seed in the 2025 NJCAA Region 3 tournament. Softball is scheduled to host No. 8 Finger Lakes Community College in a best-of-three series beginning on Saturday, May 10 at the Vikings Softball Field on campus.
Under Coach Tedisco's tenue, the 2025 campaign is producing its best offensive numbers over the last four seasons. As a team, they are hitting .390, slugging .579 with a .459 on-base percentage. The success at the plate starts at the top of the lineup, where Angelise Montanez sets the pace with a Region 3 leading .580 batting average and a .637 on-base percentage, which both rank third overall in the national rankings. She is also ranked in the NJCAA's top-10 with a .928 slugging percentage.
Izabella Ratcliffe, who anchors the top of the lineup, is leading the team with five home runs and is hitting .500 on the year, which ranks sixth among Region 3 opponents. Ratcliffe has 31 hits, 32 RBIs and is slugging .839 on the season.
Softball has five players hitting better than .400 on the year. Samantha Graham and Maeve Brannigan are hitting .462 and .479, respectively. Graham, the Vikings starting catcher, has collected 36 hits, 37 RBIs in78 at-bats. Brannigan has 28 RBIs on 35 hits and the duo has combined to strikeout only 12 times all year. Lily Brennan continues to shine in the outfield as well as at the plate. She is hitting .418 with 28 hits and 19 RBIs. Brennan carries a .909 fielding percentage with 28 putouts on 33 attempts.
The pitching rotation might be the best in the Region. Led by sophomore Moira Collins, who has surpassed 100 strikeouts for the second straight season, has led the Vikings to 11 wins in 15 appearances, while leading the nation with a 1.09 earned run average (Career ERA is 1.66) Collins enters the playoffs with 252 career strikeouts, which ranks second on the all-time list.
Reegan Mullen has solidified herself as one of the best pitchers in the Region too. She currently holds a 7-1 record over 10 appearances and boosts a 2.47 ERA over 45.1 innings pitched. Mullen is multi-faceted as she also plays outfield for the Vikings when Collins is pitching. She is hitting .281 with 16 hits in 57 at-bats, including three home runs and six doubles this season.
The softball program is poised to make a deep playoff run as they will remain home until the NJCAA National Tournament, which is hosted by Herkimer College in Syracuse, NY beginning on May 21st. If the Vikings are successful this weekend, they will host the winner of the No. 4 Corning and No. 5 Mohawk Valley matchup at HVCC on Thursday, May 15th in another best-of-three series.
