The Hudson Valley Community College Vikings women's soccer team delivered a commanding performance this afternoon, defeating SUNY Broome Hornets 5-3 to wrap up the regular season with a 7-4-1 record.
From the opening whistle, Hudson Valley asserted control, outshooting the Hornets 19-3 and generating a flurry of chances that translated into early goals. The Vikings struck three times in the first half — a finish by veteran forward Kathryn Gross at the 15-minute mark, another unassisted finish by Gross at the 20-minute mark, and a finish by Alessia Salierno (assisted by Gracyn Gates) at the 30-minute mark.
The momentum carried into the second half with two more goals — a header from Majella Briggs (assist by Grace Hogan) and another from Lauren Dengler (assist by Gross).
Though SUNY Broome mounted a late push, scoring three times between the 63rd and 74th minutes, the Vikings' early lead and maintained pressure gave them enough cushion to close it out.
With this win, Hudson Valley concludes the regular season at 7 wins, 4 losses, and 1 draw. As the #6 seed in the region, the Vikings will travel to take on the Jefferson Community College Lakers on Wednesday, October 29, at 5:00 p.m. at Jefferson's home field.
