The Hudson Valley Community College women's soccer team delivered a commanding performance on Senior Day, defeating Finger Lakes Community College 12-0 at the Outdoor Athletic Complex on Saturday.
Hudson Valley set the tone early, scoring nine goals in the first half before adding three more in the second. The Vikings took 44 shots and recorded 23 shots on goal. The defense and goalkeeping unit combined for a shutout effort that required just one save.
Offensively, the Vikings were led by Jael Etman and Brooke Naylor, who each recorded hat tricks. Naylor opened the scoring just two minutes into the match before adding goals in the 13th and 25th minutes. Etman found the back of the net in the 16th, 26th, and 75th minutes to complete her three-goal outing.
Grace Hogan and Gracyn Gates each scored twice, while Natalie Hastie and Alessia Salierno added one goal apiece. Assists came from Maggie VanDyke, Kathryn Gross, and others as the Vikings showcased a complete team effort in the attacking third. Hudson Valley also tallied nine corner kicks while committing just three fouls in the match.
Prior to kickoff, the Vikings honored their graduating sophomores in a pregame Senior Day ceremony. In addition to the on-field celebration, the program hosted a cleat drive to support local athletes in need. Thanks to donations from fans, families, and community members, 21 pairs of lightly used cleats were collected and will be distributed to area youth and high school programs.
The Vikings return to play on Wednesday, October 15th at home against Herkimer at 4pm.
