The Hudson Valley Community College women's soccer program is set to hold a Cleat Drive during their upcoming Sophomore Day game against Finger Lakes on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at the Outdoor Athletic Complex on the campus of HVCC.
The cleat drive will run from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, where fans can bring in gently used cleats and drop them off in the collection box near the main gates of the Outdoor Athletic Complex.
Sophomore defender, Anna Nichols, one of the organizers of the cleat drive stated the program's goal is to collect at least 30 pairs of cleats to support those in the surrounding Capital Region communities.
"Sports has always been a huge part of my life, and a lot of my teammate's lives, said Nichols. "To be able to give back to the community through this cleat drive is something that is very important to me and our whole women's soccer program. We want everyone to have the same opportunities we had growing up playing sports and this is just a one way we can help."
"I'm really proud of the team, and especially Anna, for the passion she's put into this project," said Kurtis Smith, head women's soccer coach. "She came to me with a few ideas, and I told her, If you want it, run with it, so she did. Soccer is a game that brings people together and teaches so many life lessons. If this cleat drive helps even just one person or family enjoy the game, then it's more than worth it."
The women's soccer program currently holds a 4-2-1 (2-2-1 Region 3) record and are set to travel to take on Onondaga (6-0-1) on Friday, October 3 at 5 p.m. before returning home for Sophomore Day and the Cleat Drive on Sunday, October 5.
