Women's Bowling Opens Nationals with Strong Day One Showing

The Hudson Valley Community College women's bowling team opened competition Thursday at the NJCAA Bowling National Championships in Lansing, Michigan with a strong start, sitting 6th overall in the team standings after the first day of competition.
Hudson Valley finished the opening day with a team total of 4,925 pins, placing just behind Jackson College and within striking distance of the top five. Barton Community College leads the field with 5,411 pins, followed closely by Iowa Central Community College and Mid Michigan College.
The Vikings also saw success in the doubles competition, where the duo of Jennifer Doty and Laney Brown delivered one of the top performances of the day. The pair combined for 1,085 pins over three games, finishing 3rd overall in the doubles standings. Doty led the duo with a 592 series, posting games of 203, 193, and 196, while Brown added 493 pins with a high game of 200.
In the singles competition, both Vikings placed inside the top 10. Doty led the way with a 558 series, highlighted by a 208 game, to finish 8th overall. Brown followed closely behind, finishing 10th with a 552 series, including a high game of 194.
Additional contributions came from Alexis Gaudette, who totaled 504 pins, Lillie Garneau with 465, and Alyssa Gray with 452 in singles play.
Team play begins Friday from 1:00–4:00 p.m. with the five-person team competition following the men's singles and doubles rounds earlier in the day. Action resumes Saturday morning at 8:15 a.m. with the continuation of the five-person team event, followed by the Baker format rounds at 11:00 a.m. before the tournament concludes with the NJCAA awards presentation Saturday afternoon.
