The Hudson Valley Community College women's basketball team fell at home Wednesday evening, dropping a 77–59 decision to Mohawk Valley Community College at the McDonough Sports Complex.
Mohawk Valley (12-9, 6-4) set the tone early, opening the game on a 29-15 first-quarter run and never relinquishing control. The Vikings (9-11, 3-6) battled back in the second quarter, holding MVCC to 12 points, but trailed 41-30 at the half. A 19-point third quarter by the visitors helped create separation heading into the final period.
Hudson Valley shot an efficient 48.8 percent from the field (21-43) and connected on 68.2 percent from the free throw line (15-22), but turnovers proved costly as the Vikings committed 33 on the night. Mohawk Valley capitalized with 23 steals and shot 51.7 percent (30-58) overall.
Gracemary Baumann led HVCC with 17 points on 6-of-13 shooting and a perfect 5-for-5 from the line, adding four rebounds and three assists. Sanaiya Adams and Alessia Salierno each chipped in 12 points, while Morgan Hayden added eight points and three assists off the bench. Piper O'Hare contributed seven assists and six rebounds in the effort.
Mohawk Valley was paced by Felise Fowler's 19 points, while Takyla Vaughn and Shayla Baker added 18 points apiece.
Hudson Valley will look to bounce back on Saturday when the Vikings host SUNY Adirondack for Senior Day at the McDonough Sports Complex. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m.
