The Hudson Valley Community College women's basketball team returned to action after the winter break on Wednesday afternoon but fell at home to Southern Maine Community College, 55–35, at the McDonough Sports Complex.
Southern Maine used a strong start to build momentum early, outscoring the Vikings 14–9 in the first quarter and extending the lead to 29–14 at halftime. Hudson Valley continued to battle defensively throughout the contest, but offensive struggles limited the comeback effort as the visitors maintained control through the third quarter and closed out the win in the fourth.
Sanaiya Adams led the Vikings with 11 points, adding six rebounds and three steals. Zoey Snider and Piper O'Hare each contributed six points off the bench, while O'Hare also pulled down seven rebounds. Gracemary Baumann finished with a team-high seven rebounds, and the Vikings forced 26 Southern Maine turnovers in the game.
Despite the setback, Hudson Valley moves to 7–2 overall and 1–1 in conference play.
The Vikings will look to bounce back when they return home on January 14, hosting North Country Community College at 5 p.m. in the McDonough Sports Complex.
