The Hudson Valley Community College softball team saw its 2026 season come to a close on Tuesday, falling to #7 seeded Monroe Community College in the Region III semifinal round.
The Vikings dropped a pair of games to Monroe, narrowly losing Game 1, 6-5, before falling 15-6 in Game 2.
In the opener, Hudson Valley battled throughout in a tightly contested game. After falling behind early, the Vikings responded in the third inning, tying the game at 3-3 on a pair of sacrifice flies, including one off the bat of Kristel. Monroe regained the lead in the fifth inning with back-to-back home runs, which ultimately proved to be the difference.
Currao led the Vikings offensively in Game 1 with two RBIs, while Currao, Graham, Bonafede, Kilburn, and Kristel each recorded a hit. The Vikings showed patience at the plate, drawing six walks in the contest.
In Game 2, Monroe broke the game open with an 11-run third inning en route to a 15-6 victory. Despite the setback, Hudson Valley continued to compete offensively, with Currao driving in three runs and Stevens collecting two hits in two at-bats from the nine spot. The Vikings also turned two double plays defensively.
Hudson Valley concludes the season with a 21-14 overall record, marking a strong debut campaign under first-year head coach Katy Lucey. The Vikings showed resilience and growth throughout the season, earning a semifinal appearance and positioning themselves for continued success in the future.
