The Hudson Valley Community College softball team wrapped up its regular season this weekend with a pair of road doubleheaders, splitting with Genesee Community College on Saturday before dropping two contests to Corning CC on Sunday. The Vikings now shift their focus to postseason play, earning the No. 2 seed and hosting No. 7 Monroe Community College in a best-of-three Region 3 Semifinal series May 5–6.
Hudson Valley opened the weekend with a strong 10-5 victory over Genesee, powered by a standout performance from Samantha Graham. Graham drove in four runs on three hits, including a two-run triple in the third inning, an RBI single in the fourth, and an RBI double in the seventh. The Vikings broke the game open with a four-run third inning, capitalizing on timely hitting and a Genesee error, along with a sacrifice bunt from Kristel.
Kristel also earned the win in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing five runs on seven hits, striking out three and walking one. Offensively, Hudson Valley tallied 14 hits, with Castiglione, Danskin, Sawitzki, and Bonafede each recording multi-hit performances.
In game two, the Vikings were unable to keep pace with Genesee, falling 11-2. Genesee used a big fourth inning to take control, plating five runs and adding insurance late. June drove in both runs for Hudson Valley from the nine spot, while Bonafede led the team with a perfect 2-for-2 performance at the plate.
On Sunday, the Vikings traveled to Corning CC, where they were edged 6-5 in a tightly contested opener. Despite outhitting Corning 12-9, Hudson Valley was unable to overcome early miscues and timely hits by the home team. Currao, Graham, Sawitzki, and Kristel each collected two hits in the effort, while Kristel added two RBIs. The Vikings battled back to tie the game early, but Corning regained the lead in the fifth and added key insurance runs in the sixth.
In the weekend finale, Hudson Valley fell 11-0 as Corning capitalized on early opportunities and defensive miscues. The Vikings recorded hits from Stevens, Currao, Danskin, and Graham, but were unable to generate sustained offense. Despite the loss, Hudson Valley turned a double play defensively.
