The Hudson Valley Community College softball team earned a road doubleheader sweep over SUNY Adirondack on Tuesday, securing wins of 13-4 and 5-2 behind a combination of explosive offense and strong pitching performances.
In game one, Hudson Valley broke the game open with a seven-run fifth inning to cruise to a 13-4 victory. Alexandria Castiglione and Katie Stevens each drove in two runs during the inning, while additional runs came across on Adirondack errors. The Vikings set the tone early, scoring five runs in the first inning. Sophia Currao and Gracelyn Kilburn each delivered RBI singles, Samantha Graham added an RBI groundout, and Castiglione capped the inning with a two-run single. Kilburn later added a solo home run in the second inning. Ella Sawitzki earned the win, allowing five hits and four runs—none earned—over five innings. Offensively, the Vikings totaled 13 hits, led by Castiglione's perfect 3-for-3 performance with three RBIs. Stevens, Bridget Danskin, Katie Pryor, and Kilburn each recorded multiple hits. Stevens also added two stolen bases as Hudson Valley applied pressure on the basepaths.
In game two, the Vikings responded after allowing an early run, erupting for five runs in the second inning to secure a 5-2 win and complete the sweep. Currao highlighted the inning with a two-run double and finished with two RBIs. She also earned the win in the circle, striking out seven over three innings. Keeley Kristel recorded the save, while Sawitzki added 2.1 innings of scoreless relief. Castiglione, Danskin, and Pryor each collected two hits in the nightcap, continuing Hudson Valley's consistent offensive production throughout the day.
The Vikings will return home on Saturday for a doubleheader against the Community College of Rhode Island, with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM. The games will serve as Hudson Valley's Play4Kay Women's Cancer Awareness Games, supporting the fight against women's cancers.
