The Hudson Valley Community College softball team put together an impressive weekend on the road, going 3-1 across doubleheaders against Finger Lakes Community College and Tompkins Cortland Community College. The Vikings swept Finger Lakes on Saturday before splitting with Tompkins Cortland on Sunday, showcasing explosive offense and resilience throughout the four-game stretch.
Hudson Valley opened the weekend in dominant fashion with an 8-2 victory over Finger Lakes in Game 1 on Saturday. The Vikings struck early in the second inning, highlighted by an RBI single from Casabonne. They continued to build their lead with consistent hitting, including another RBI knock from June in the third. Kristel delivered a complete game performance in the circle, allowing just three hits and two runs over seven innings while striking out eight. Offensively, Graham and Ferracane led the way with two hits apiece, while Castiglione and Kristel each drove in a pair of runs. The Vikings also stayed aggressive on the basepaths, swiping five bases in the win.
In Game 2, Hudson Valley's offense exploded in a 12-2 rout to complete the sweep. A five-run first inning set the tone, fueled by Pryor's two-run triple and aggressive baserunning that forced defensive miscues. Pryor added another RBI in the second, while Kilburn and Kristel helped extend the lead in the third. Sawitzki capped the scoring with a three-run inside-the-park home run in the fourth. She also earned the win in the circle, tossing four solid innings. The Vikings pounded out 13 hits in the game, with Stevens, Pryor, Sawitzki, and Kilburn each collecting two hits. The defense was flawless, committing no errors.
On Sunday, Hudson Valley faced Tompkins Cortland in a high-scoring doubleheader. In Game 1, the Vikings rallied from an early 9-3 deficit to earn a thrilling 12-9 comeback victory. Currao led the charge with a standout performance, going 3-for-4 with a three-run home run in the first inning. After falling behind early, the Vikings mounted a decisive five-run rally in the sixth inning, highlighted by Currao's clutch two-run single. Kilburn added a perfect 4-for-4 performance at the plate, while the team totaled 15 hits. Kristel was outstanding in relief, earning the win with six innings of work and six strikeouts. The Vikings also played clean defense and remained aggressive on the bases.
In the weekend finale, Hudson Valley dropped a 21-9 decision despite another strong offensive showing. Kilburn powered the lineup with two home runs and four RBIs, while Graham and Kilburn each recorded three hits. The Vikings jumped out to an early 5-1 lead, but a big fourth inning by Tompkins Cortland shifted the momentum. Hudson Valley still finished with 14 hits and continued its aggressive approach on the bases.
The Vikings return home on Tuesday, April 14, for a doubleheader against Tompkins Cortland Community College, with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM.
