The Hudson Valley Community College Vikings kicked off their home schedule in dramatic fashion on Sunday, sweeping a doubleheader against SUNY Erie with a pair of comeback wins.
In Game 1, the Vikings stormed back from a four-run deficit to earn an 11-7 victory. After trailing 4-0 through three innings, Hudson Valley erupted for six runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead for good. Key hits from Currao, whose clutch single drove in two, powered the rally.
Sawitzki earned the win in relief, tossing four and two-thirds innings while allowing only one hit and striking out four. The Vikings' offense came alive with 11 hits total—Stevens, Pryor, and Kristel each recording two. Pryor and Graham were major offensive contributors, both driving in two runs apiece.
The momentum carried into Game 2, where Hudson Valley secured a 4-3 extra-innings victory. After SUNY Erie took an early 2-1 lead, the Vikings tied it in the fifth courtesy of a Currao groundout, then sealed the game in the eighth with back-to-back RBI hits from Currao and Graham.
Kristel delivered a complete-game performance, scattering six hits and striking out three across eight innings. Currao led the lineup again, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Hudson Valley's defense turned a key double play to preserve the win.
With the sweep, the Vikings improve their early-season record and look to build on their momentum in tomorrow's home doubleheader against Monroe Community College. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m., with Game 2 to follow at 4:00 p.m.
