The Hudson Valley Community College softball team opened its 2026 season with a four-game road trip, splitting a doubleheader with Brookdale Community College on Saturday before dropping two games to Rowan College South Jersey on Sunday.
Hudson Valley opened the weekend with a 7-2 victory over Brookdale behind a strong performance from Katie Pryor, who drove in four runs on three hits. Pryor delivered a sacrifice fly in the first inning, hit a solo home run in the sixth, and added a two-run double in the seventh to lead the Vikings offensively.
The Vikings jumped out early in the first when Samantha Graham doubled down the right field line and later scored, while Pryor added another run on a sacrifice fly. Brookdale tied the game in the third, but Hudson Valley regained the lead in the fourth as Vinessa Bonafede drove in a run and Alexandria Castiglione added a sacrifice bunt.
Keeley Kristel earned the complete-game win in the circle, allowing two hits and two runs—both unearned—over seven innings while striking out five. Katie Stevens added two hits and stole four bases in the victory.
Game two turned into a high-scoring battle, with Brookdale edging Hudson Valley 17-15 despite a strong offensive performance from the Vikings. Hudson Valley collected 15 hits in the contest, highlighted by Bridget Danskin's 4-for-5 effort with five RBIs.
The Vikings rallied for six runs in the third inning to take a 12-7 lead, highlighted by Pryor's three-run home run, but Brookdale answered with a six-run fifth inning to regain the lead. Pryor, Graham, Ella Sawitzki, and Gracelyn Kilburn all recorded multiple hits, while Hudson Valley also drew eight walks.
On Sunday, Hudson Valley traveled to face Rowan College South Jersey, dropping both games of the doubleheader.
In game one, the Vikings fell 11-7 despite out-hitting Rowan 11-10. Kilburn led Hudson Valley with three hits, while Danskin drove in two runs with a double during a fourth-inning rally that briefly put the Vikings ahead.
In the weekend finale, Hudson Valley fell 10-7 after Rowan erased an early 7-0 deficit. The Vikings scored six runs in the second inning behind RBIs from Bonafede, Kilburn, Graham, and Pryor, with Pryor adding a two-run double. Kilburn later drove in another run with a sacrifice fly.
Pryor and Graham each collected two hits in the game, while Danskin drew three walks as Hudson Valley finished with eight walks overall.
Hudson Valley returns to action on March 28, when the Vikings host Monroe Community College for a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
