Vikings Men’s Track & Field Posts 13 Top-10 Finishes at Jonathan Tymann Invitational

The Hudson Valley Community College men's track & field team turned in a strong all-around performance at the Jonathan Tymann Invitational at Gordon College, recording 13 top-10 finishes and multiple event victories.
The Vikings were led by a trio of first-place finishes on the track. Sophomore Jair Oliva took the top spot in the 400 meters with a time of 51.59, while fellow sophomore Parris Porter captured the 800-meter title in 2:00.69. The 4x100-meter relay team of Nicholas Rushford, Jair Oliva, Sylas Petrie, and Darius Simmons also secured a first-place finish, crossing in 43.34.
In the field, sophomore Makai Gordon earned a first-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.83 meters, while freshman Jaydan Salisbury delivered a strong showing with a second-place finish in the shot put (11.55m).
The Vikings also saw success in relay competition as the 4x400-meter relay team of Gavin Vautrin, Parris Porter, Sylas Petrie, and Jair Oliva placed third with a time of 3:33.99.
Distance standout Alan Arnold led the way in the 5000 meters with a fourth-place finish in 15:59.90, hitting a national qualifying standard. Nicholas Rushford added two top-five performances, placing fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:00.57) and fifth in the 110-meter hurdles (16.27), while Darius Simmons secured a fifth-place finish in the 200 meters (23.40).
Additional top-10 performances included a fourth-place finish from the 4x100-meter "B" relay team (44.98), an eighth-place finish in the 400 meters from Gavin Vautrin (54.08), and a 10th-place finish in the javelin from Dylan Izzo (40.09m), who also met national qualifying standards.
Hudson Valley will look to build on its early-season momentum when it returns to action at the SNHU Invitational on Saturday, April 11.
