The Hudson Valley Community College men's soccer season came to a close Tuesday evening as the No.7 Vikings fell to No.10 Finger Lakes 5-1 in the NJCAA Region III Quarterfinal round.
Finger Lakes jumped out on the Vikings early in the first half with Gabriel Mendoza scoring on a corner kick at the 1:53 mark. Mendoza also scored the Finger Lakes final goal in the first half as the Lakers entered the break with a 4-0 lead over the Vikings.
Ethan Thomas (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) put the Hudson Valley on the board in the second half after being awarded a penalty kick as a result of a Lakers foul in the box. Thomas successfully converted the penalty kick as he sent the well-placed shot to the lower right side of the goal.
Finger Lakes added its final goal at the 87:00 mark, securing the win and their ticket to advance to the NJCAA semifinal round on Thursday.
The Vikings finished up a successful 2017 season with a 9-8 overall record, a four-win improvement from a year ago when they finished the year with a 5-10-2 record.
