The Hudson Valley Community College men's lacrosse team delivered a commanding performance on the road Friday evening, defeating Mohawk Valley Community College 19-3 at Proctor Stadium.
The Vikings set the tone early and never looked back, erupting for six first-quarter goals to seize full control. Leading the offensive charge was Romeyn Murray, who turned in a standout performance with seven goals and two assists, consistently finding the back of the net and igniting Hudson Valley's attack.
Murray opened the scoring less than four minutes into the contest and proceeded to score four goals in the first quarter alone, helping the Vikings jump out to a 6-0 lead after one.
Hudson Valley continued to dictate play in the second and third quarters, extending its advantage to 9-2 heading into the final frame. From there, the Vikings put the game well out of reach with a dominant 10-goal fourth quarter.
Travis Yurschak added three goals for Hudson Valley, while Cole Vumbaco contributed two goals and an assist. Brady Weatherwax chipped in two goals, and Jason Herrick, Jake Marsh, Zachary Rogers, Kitson Stover, and Josh Whitmore each found the back of the net in a balanced offensive effort that saw 10 different players record points.
At the faceoff X, Yurschak was dominant, winning 21 of 25 draws to give the Vikings consistent possession throughout the game.
Defensively, Hudson Valley held Mohawk Valley to just three goals, with goalkeeper Nicholas Lagitch making eight saves in 45 minutes of action.
The Vikings' high-powered offense finished with 19 goals on 44 shots, while also controlling the ground ball battle, 37-28.
Hudson Valley will look to carry that momentum into its next matchup as the Vikings return home for a rematch against Mohawk Valley Community College on Monday for Senior Day. Opening faceoff is set for 5:00 p.m. at Hudson Valley.
