The Hudson Valley Community College men's lacrosse team fell 12-9 to Delaware Technical Community College on Saturday afternoon at the Outdoor Athletic Complex.
Hudson Valley (2-6) opened the scoring early in the first quarter as Josh Whitmore netted an unassisted goal, but Delaware Tech responded with a strong offensive stretch, scoring four goals in the opening frame and adding five more in the second quarter to take a 9-3 lead into halftime.
Despite the early deficit, the Vikings showed resilience in the second half. Hudson Valley outscored Delaware Tech 6-3 over the final two quarters, including a shutout defensive effort in the fourth. The late push was sparked by goals from Whitmore, Dylan Ryan, and Romeyn Murray, as the Vikings cut the deficit to three, but ultimately ran out of time.
Whitmore led all scorers with four goals, while Murray recorded a four-point performance with two goals and two assists. Nathan Stone added two goals, including a man-up conversion in the third quarter, and Ryan chipped in with a goal.
Travis Yurschak led the Vikings with seven ground balls, helping anchor the defensive effort. In goal, Kevin Nicoll made 12 saves over three quarters, while Brayden Cooper stopped three shots in relief.
Hudson Valley will look to bounce back when they hit the road on April 10 for a 5:00 PM matchup at Mohawk Valley Community College.
