Vikings Earn First Win of Season with Road Victory at Tompkins Cortland

The Hudson Valley Community College men's lacrosse team picked up its first win of the 2026 season on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Tompkins Cortland Community College on the road. With the victory, the Vikings improve to 1-1 on the season heading into the weekend.
Hudson Valley's offense was firing throughout the contest, with several players contributing to a balanced scoring attack. The Vikings struck early in the first quarter with goals from freshmen attackers Josh Whitmore and Nathan Stone, along with freshman Kitson Stover and sophomore Cole Vumbaco.
Whitmore continued to lead the charge in the second quarter, adding two more goals, while Stone also found the back of the net again to help Hudson Valley extend its lead before halftime.
The Vikings kept the momentum rolling in the third quarter. Stone completed his hat trick, while freshman midfielder Ethan Martin and sophomore midfielder Romeyn Murray each added a goal. Stover also scored his second goal of the afternoon during the quarter.
Hudson Valley closed out the game with a strong fourth quarter as freshman Mitchell Calhoun, Stover, freshman Brady Weatherwax, and Whitmore each added goals to secure the Vikings' first win of the season.
Whitmore finished the day with a four-goal performance, while Stover recorded a hat trick. Stone also tallied three goals in the win.
In goal, freshman Kevin Nicoll anchored the Vikings for the first three quarters, making nine saves. Sophomore Nicholas Lagtich played the final quarter and recorded five saves to help seal the victory.
Hudson Valley will return home this Saturday when the Vikings host Herkimer College at 1 p.m. as they look to build on their first win of the season.
