Vikings Dominate #9 Finger Lakes in First Round, Advance to Quarterfinals

The #8 seed Hudson Valley Community College men's basketball team delivered a commanding performance Tuesday night, defeating #9 Finger Lakes Community College 102-55 in the first round of the Region III playoffs at the McDonough Sports Complex.
The Vikings set the tone early, racing out to a 55-23 halftime lead behind efficient shooting and relentless defensive pressure. Hudson Valley shot 55.4% from the field and 44.4% from three-point range while holding Finger Lakes to just 28.2% shooting overall and 17.6% from beyond the arc.
Sophomore Julius Reed led all scorers with a game-high 29 points, knocking down five three-pointers and adding six rebounds and three assists in a standout playoff performance. Kemontae Thawe added 16 points and seven rebounds, while Ian Fisher-Layton contributed 14 points, nine rebounds, and four assists.
Jacob Baccaro anchored the glass with a double-double effort of 12 points and 10 rebounds, helping the Vikings dominate the rebounding battle 54-37.
Hudson Valley showcased its depth throughout the contest, with Fabian Wheatley scoring 16 points off the bench and William Robinson adding eight points and five rebounds. The Vikings finished with 26 assists on 41 made field goals in a balanced offensive effort.
With the victory, Hudson Valley improves to 10-17 overall and advances to the Region III Quarterfinals. The Vikings will travel to face #1 North Country Community College on Friday at 5:30 p.m. in a quarterfinal matchup hosted by Genesee Community College. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. as the Vikings look to continue their postseason run.
