The Hudson Valley Community College football team put up a valiant effort in the 2025 Region III Championship on Saturday, but ultimately fell 38–31 on the road to Erie Community College.
The Vikings responded to an early 14–0 deficit with three unanswered touchdowns. Quarterback Nathan Stone punched in a 1-yard run to get Hudson Valley on the board before connecting with Isaiah Allen for a 67-yard strike to tie the game at 14–14 after one quarter.
Hudson Valley continued its surge in the second quarter as Stone found Rodney Bell from 22 yards out to give the Vikings their first lead at 21–14. Erie answered with a touchdown and a late 40-yard field goal to take a 24–21 edge into halftime.
After a scoreless third quarter from both sides, Erie capitalized in the fourth with a pair of pivotal special teams and red-zone plays — first punching in a 2-yard touchdown run, then returning a kickoff 98 yards to extend its lead to 38–21.
The Vikings continued to fight, as Stone and Bell connected again for a 28-yard touchdown to close the gap to 38–31. Despite outgaining Erie 441 to 372 in total offense, Hudson Valley's late-game comeback bid fell short.
Stone finished with 405 passing yards and three touchdowns, while Bell and Allen each recorded explosive scoring plays in the receiving game. Defensively, Hudson Valley held Erie scoreless in the third quarter and forced multiple long-yardage situations but could not overcome the fourth-quarter swing on special teams.
