The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team continued its dominant start to the season on Tuesday, sweeping SUNY Broome in convincing fashion to improve to 20-0 overall. The Vikings also remain ranked No. 4 in the NJCAA Division III National Baseball Poll. Hudson Valley combined explosive offense, disciplined at-bats, and strong pitching across both games to secure the sweep.
In Game 1, the Vikings defeated the Hornets 12-7 behind a balanced offensive attack. Hudson Valley got on the board in the second inning with contributions from Chase Morrison, Logan Norman, and Nico DeSanto, each driving in a run. The Vikings broke the game open in the third inning, scoring six runs. Red Maron highlighted the inning with an RBI double, while Nicholas Mirabile, Frankie Torres, and Morrison all contributed to the scoring surge. Connor Trudeau earned the win in relief, tossing five innings and allowing two runs (none earned) while striking out four. Joey Gecewicz made the start, striking out three over two innings of work. At the plate, Norman and Maron each collected two hits, while Morrison led the team with two RBIs. The Vikings showed patience at the plate, drawing 10 walks, with Norman, Nick Commisso, and Robert Melo each recording two. Hudson Valley also turned three double plays and stole three bases, including two by Norman.
In Game 2, Hudson Valley completed the sweep with a 9-1 victory, powered by a six-run third inning. Mirabile delivered a two-run double, Michael Poltar added an RBI single, and DeSanto capped the inning with a three-run double. The Vikings jumped out early once again, scoring two runs in the first inning on RBI efforts from Melo and Maron. Sean Moore delivered a dominant performance on the mound, earning the win with five innings of one-run ball while striking out seven. Moore also threw an immaculate inning in the fifth, striking out the side on just nine pitches. Offensively, Joshua Ortiz and DeSanto each recorded two hits, while Mirabile and DeSanto drove in three runs apiece. The Vikings continued their aggressive approach on the basepaths, adding three more stolen bases.
