The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team delivered a statement weekend, sweeping a four-game series against Mohawk Valley Community College on April 11-12. The Vikings showcased explosive offense, dominant pitching, and aggressive base running in both road and home contests.
Hudson Valley opened the series on Saturday on the road with a commanding 12-2 victory, fueled by an eight-run first inning. Key contributions came from Poltar, who drove in three runs with a double, along with RBI hits from Nico DeSanto, Logan Norman, and Robert Melo. On the mound, Alexander Deitz was sharp, earning the win with five innings of work, allowing just two runs while striking out seven. The Vikings also displayed discipline at the plate with seven walks and speed on the bases, swiping five bags.
In game two on Saturday, the Vikings continued their offensive surge in a 12-9 win. Melo set the tone early with a two-run home run in the first inning as Hudson Valley again built a big early lead. DeSanto led the offense, going 3-for-5 with four RBIs, while Michael Poltar added three hits of his own. Jeremy Graham earned the win on the mound, striking out nine over four innings, with strong relief appearances preserving the victory.
Returning home on Sunday, the Vikings leaned on a historic pitching performance in a 7-0 shutout. Shea dominated on the mound, striking out 15 batters while allowing just one hit across seven innings. Offensively, Hudson Valley capitalized on a four-run second inning highlighted by RBI hits from Joshua Ortiz, Poltar, Norman, and Melo. The Vikings continued to pressure Mohawk Valley with aggressive base running, totaling five stolen bases.
The series finale saw Hudson Valley complete the sweep in emphatic fashion with a 15-0 victory. Melo led the charge with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, including a home run, double, and single. The Vikings exploded offensively with contributions throughout the lineup, while Eliezer Rosario was dominant on the mound, striking out nine over five shutout innings. Hudson Valley's speed was once again on display, racking up nine stolen bases in the game.
Across the four games, the Vikings combined for 46 runs, showcasing depth throughout the lineup and consistency on the mound.
Hudson Valley returns to action on Tuesday, April 14, traveling to SUNY Broome for a doubleheader scheduled for 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM.
