The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team opened the 2026 season with a dominant doubleheader sweep of Tompkins Cortland Community College on Sunday, winning 14-2 and 14-4.
In game one, Logan Norman led the offensive charge with a perfect 4-for-4 performance that included a home run, two doubles, and a single. Norman's two-run homer in the fifth inning highlighted a four-run frame for the Vikings.
Hudson Valley jumped out early in the first inning as Robert Melo drove in a run on a groundout, Red Maron followed with an RBI single, and Chase Morrison doubled to score two more. The Vikings added to the lead in the second when Nico DeSanto doubled and Nick Commisso delivered a two-run single.
Alex Deitz earned the win on the mound, allowing four hits and two runs over four innings while striking out two. Eliezer Rosario added a scoreless inning in relief. The Vikings finished with 15 hits in the opener, while Commisso and Morrison each drove in three runs. Hudson Valley also swiped seven bases and turned two double plays without committing an error.
The Vikings carried their momentum into game two, earning a 14-4 victory behind a five-RBI performance from Maron. He doubled in two runs in the first inning and later delivered a bases-clearing triple during Hudson Valley's eight-run third inning.
Hudson Valley scored six runs in the first inning and broke the game open in the third with contributions from Melo, Commisso, Morrison, Michael Poltar, and Norman during the eight-run rally.
Brendan Shea earned the win on the mound, allowing just two hits and one run over three innings while striking out five. The Vikings totaled 10 hits and showed patience at the plate with 13 walks. Norman, Melo, and Triston Santos each had multiple hits, while Hudson Valley again stole seven bases.
With the sweep, the Vikings improve to 2-0 to begin the season.
Hudson Valley now heads to Florida for its annual Spring Break trip, where the Vikings will face Century College on Saturday, March 14 at 3:15 p.m. in Auburndale, Florida.
